The Lifeblood of the Soil | Benefits of Fertilizer

Fertilizer is a plant nutrient applied from the soil or leaves to meet the needs of plants.

Plants grow and develop more efficiently with the support of macro-nutrient elements such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, as well as micro-nutrient elements such as sulfur, iron, manganese, copper, zinc, boron, calcium, magnesium, and manganese.

Nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium are the most important essential nutrient support elements. Although soil and water contain many elements, they are still often lacking in some plant support elements. In this case, it becomes difficult to achieve the desired yield from the crops, and these deficiencies can be addressed through fertilizer use.

What You Need to Know About Organic and Liquid Fertilizer Prices

The plant nutrient source derived from natural resources is called organic fertilizer. Liquid fertilizer, on the other hand, is a liquid form of fertilizer that feeds plants and acts more quickly. It is important to know that organic fertilizers function differently from chemical fertilizers. Organic fertilizer varieties include elements from various natural sources such as animal manure, seaweed, compost, and green manures. Liquid fertilizers are liquid fertilizers prepared according to the needs and development of plant products.

Organic fertilizer prices and liquid fertilizer prices may vary depending on the product’s brand value, changing market conditions, and the details of the elements contained in the fertilizers.

Fertilizer Strategies to Increase Yields and Affect Costs

In agriculture, fertilizers are the essential nutritional sources needed to achieve high yields and protect plants from external factors. Fertilizer prices are a basic necessity for farmers. Fertilizer prices can increase or decrease depending on varying factors in the industry. Liquid fertilizers, compared to other fertilizers, are chemically synthesized and can act more quickly than conventional fertilizers used for plant development. For example, the increase in wheat fertilizer prices within the fertilizer price range leads to an increase in agricultural costs, which in turn affects wheat prices.

Fertilizer is a plant nutrient source based on chemical and organic foundations. The best fertilizer can have different effects depending on the planting seasons, type, and soil fertility of the crops you are growing. Fertilizer types and prices are closely monitored by farmers for the development of their production, protecting plants during planting, and for cost planning of the fertilizers used. The primary goal of fertilization in agriculture is to enrich the nutrients that are deficient in the soil, physically support the soil where its general properties are lacking, and ensure quality farming.

Protect Your Soil’s Health and Believe in the Power of Organomineral Fertilizers

Organomineral fertilizers are a type of fertilizer that contains both organic matter and nutrient elements. Organic matter enriches the soil structure, increases water retention capacity, and boosts the organic matter content of the soil. It encourages plants to grow healthier.

The purpose of using these fertilizers is to improve soil fertility, provide plant nutrients, and use natural resources more sustainably. Organomineral fertilizers, with their organic and mineral structure, improve the physical, chemical, and biological properties of the soil. Thanks to organomineral fertilizers, healthier fruits and plants can be observed. They are one of the types of fertilizers used to promote plant growth.

Nutrient elements are compounds that influence a plant's vital functions and promote healthier development.

For example, Nitrogen plays a role in protein synthesis, promotes plant growth, elongates the plant, and helps the fruit grow. Phosphorus is important for root development, stimulating flowering, and fruit formation. Potassium regulates the plant's water balance, increases resistance to diseases, helps in fruit coloring, promotes overall growth, and encourages internal fullness (fruit setting). Micronutrient elements work in an integrated manner. When one is deficient, the absorption of other nutrients slows down. Typically, micronutrient elements help increase flower and pollen production.

According to the data from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, as of the end of 2022, the amount of chemical fertilizers used in Turkey as pure plant nutrients (N, P2O5, K2O) decreased by 10.15% and amounted to 2,313,689 tons. By the end of 2022, 97 kilograms of chemical fertilizer were used per hectare of cultivated agricultural land in Turkey. Excessive fertilizer use is not only an issue in dry farming areas but also applies to some irrigated and local areas.

According to FAO data from 2020, the average fertilizer use per hectare of arable land, based on plant nutrients, was 157 kilograms/ha globally, with 145 kilograms/ha worldwide and 150 kilograms/ha in Turkey.

Key Elements in Fertilization and Plant Health

Root Strengthening
Maintaining Stem Health
Importance of Leaf Health

Root Support in Fertilization

In greenhouse plants, our first priority to increase yield is to obtain a healthy and well-developed root system. A plant with a healthy root not only gets protected from diseases but also allows the majority of the applied fertilizers to be absorbed by the plant. This is because a healthy plant comes from a healthy root. To achieve this healthy root, the seedlings to be planted should be dipped in a mixture of 50 ml of Migma Root per 20L of water. This mixture should be used to dip the seedlings before planting. This method encourages the plants to develop roots, advancing the root growth and plant development processes.
The first water given to the plants after planting should be their lifeline water. No fertilizer or similar substances should be mixed in. After 3-4 days, when the plant starts to adapt to the soil and attempts to root, to support it, 1 L of Migma Root per dönüm should be applied, to develop fibrous roots 2 L of Migma Aminado per dönüm should be used, and to prevent stress during the transition from the seedling tray to the soil, and to minimize the adaptation period, 250 ml of Migma Alga Planta per dönüm should be applied.

Strengthening the Stem with Balanced Fertilization

The second key factor to focus on after achieving a strong, healthy root system in plants is the stem. One of the most common mistakes made by farmers who want to rapidly develop plants is overloading them with nitrogen. Due to the excess nitrogen, the plant may start growing quickly in height, but it will lead to a hollow stem and the plant may forget to flower. The hollowing of the stem particularly increases the plant’s susceptibility to fungal diseases during the winter period.
The fertilizers labeled as 20-20-20 or 18-18-18, referred to as balanced fertilizers, are actually not correct in the term "balanced fertilizer" because the absorption rates of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium are different.

To prevent the stem from becoming hollow, it is necessary to use fertilizers rich in potassium. For example, Migma Ultra 16-8-24+TE will help fill the stem. When the plant reaches the fruiting stage, it will have the same effect on the fruit, leading to an increase in the weight of the harvested fruit. During the winter months, as the soil cools down, fertilizer uptake will slow down, so using liquid potassium fertilizers like Migma Nitro Potasio will be more effective.

Fertilization and Leaf Health

Another important factor to increase yield in greenhouse plants is the leaves. Leaves are crucial for photosynthesis. The healthier the leaves, the more efficient the photosynthesis process. Before the plant is affected by diseases, protective pesticides should be applied, and Migma Foliar leaf fertilizers should be used periodically according to the plant's needs. The leaves should be maintained with minimal damage throughout the season and the season should end with healthy leaves.
A strong root, a sturdy stem, and undamaged leaves lead to more flowers, heavier fruits, and higher yields.
